RedHat Linux and Solaris are primary support platforms.
Other UNIX variants such as HP-UX and AIX are supported but are

Does Blue Gecko provide custom
monitoring or administration services?
Yes. Blue Gecko can add a custom monitor for nearly
any condition on a server or in a database. Development

What do I need to have to
qualify for the 100% Network Infrastructure Uptime Guarantee?
The Managed Business Server automatically qualify. In
a dedicated environment, a redundant firewall and redundant router
(if needed), managed by Blue Gecko are required for the 100% Network
Infrastructure Uptime Guarantee.

What is Blue Gecko's monitoring
SLA?
Blue Gecko will respond in less than 30 minutes for a system emergency
(system down or unavailable) and in 4 business hours for a
non-emergency. Issues must be logged in a supported method as
defined on our Customer
Support page for SLA to apply.

Are there any minimum purchase
requirements?
Remote services require a minimum of $1000/month. There
is no minimum for hosting services.

commitment?
Generally there is no minimum commitment for Remote Management.
Hosting typically requires a one-year commitment.

My DBA is going on vacation
this month. Can Blue Gecko provide coverage for only a few weeks?
Yes. Blue Gecko can function very effectively as support
insurance when existing staff is sick or go on vacation.
A support commitment on the production system is required to lock
in support and SLA commitment.

Administration
Can Blue Gecko manage backups on
my site even if administration is remote?
Blue Gecko can manage and monitor backup execution of a remote
server or database. If a failure occurs due to a media
manager, Blue Gecko will notify the appropriate on-site party
of the failure.

Can Blue Gecko perform
custom scripting?
Yes. Blue Gecko admins are experienced in a variety of
scripting languages including various UNIX shells, perl, and SQL.

my application server such as ColdFusion?
No. Blue Gecko can create custom scripts and monitoring
for any software on a managed server, but Blue Gecko does not
directly support any particular application server.

No. Blue Gecko does not provide direct functional support,
but we have a list of trusted partners who can provide such support.

has an administrative staff. Does Blue Gecko offer any
administrative options for augmenting existing staff?
Absolutely. Larger, established IT shops can use Blue Gecko
to outsource routine, mundane tasks that don't require the specialized,
site-specific knowledge such as backups and space management.
Blue Gecko can also function as support insurance when
on-site staff is sick or goes on vacation.

Security
How secure is
my data with Blue Gecko?
Managed Business Server provide redundant, tightly managed firewalls
that comply with professional standards for security maintenance.
All hardware components are kept up-to-date with the latest security
patches, and 7x24x365 monitoring constantly watches for attempted
intrusion.
For dedicated networks, every effort is made to encourage and
advise customers to only use secure protocols (e.g. sftp instead
of ftp) and to use a firewall; however, in a dedicated environment,
security is ultimately up to the individual customer.

How is security
implemented with the Remote Management Server?
The Remote Management Server runs locally on a remote client site,
requiring no change in any firewall top monitor and send alerts.
Blue Gecko will require some method of accessing the RMS,
and can confirm to customer standards. Typical methods
include IP secured ssh and VPN.

Do I have to purchase
a firewall to host with Blue Gecko?
No, but a firewall of some sort is always advisable. Blue
Gecko offers a variety of firewall solutions that are all very
secure and fit a wide range of budgets and availability requirements.

Can I run my own
firewall?
Yes, but Blue Gecko cannot provide the 100% Network Infrastructure
Uptime Guarantee, nor can Blue Gecko provide support for a customer
supplied firewall. Blue Gecko offers a variety of firewall
solutions that are all very secure and fit a wide range of budgets
and availability requirements.

Will Blue Gecko
host and manage my existing hardware?
Yes. Hardware must be rack-mountable, and 2 network
interfaces are required to support managed backups.

Can I have root
access to my hosted servers?
Root access is only available in a dedicated network
environment. Root access is not available on Blue Gecko
managed network infrastructure.

Can I have physical
access to my servers? What if I own my own hardware?
Blue Gecko co-locates servers for many customers in the
same racks, and does not allow unsupervised access by customers
who own their own hardware. If access is required, a Blue Gecko
engineer must be in attendance and an access fee may apply.
